Toseland sees all-British podium at Silverstone

Source: WORLDSBK.COM | NEWS - Friday, 23rd July 2010, 10:41 GMT

James Toseland can arguably be considered to be the senior member of the Brit-pack, in terms of achievement rather than age, as he was Superbike World Champion in 2004 and 2007 before switching to the MotoGP class for two seasons. Having returned to 1000cc production-based action this year, the Yamaha Sterilgarda man currently sits sixth in the Championship and is hoping for a boost as the season's end approaches. "I've always had good support over the years and every British rider wants to do well at home. Hopefully we all have a great weekend and get some British riders on the podium. That's what it's all about - it's about getting a British rider on the podium at the British race," said Toseland, who was at Silverstone on Tuesday 20 July. Speaking about the new circuit layout, Toseland added: "It seems a great layout. I watched MotoGP and they had a great race. There's a good five or six overtaking points for a bike. I'm looking forward to World Superbikes, especially with seven British riders. I think we've had five British riders on the podium this year. There's every chance that there will be three British riders on the podium at Silverstone, just like in Assen. I've always had good results at Silverstone. I won on the Ducati here in ‘05 and was on the podium in '06. It's been a track I've done well on, so I'm looking forward to coming back here. With MotoGP, Formula 1 and British Superbikes, Silverstone has got all the major events now - it's nice to be on this kind of stage." Read article

How Lorenzo’s Engine Blow Up Could Affect The Championship

Source: MotoMatters.com | Kropotkin Thinks - ... that MotoGP's Silly Season is about to explode - Saturday, 17th July 2010, 22:09 GMT

In the middle of qualifying practice at the Sachsenring today, we witnessed a spectacle that had not been seen at a MotoGP race for a very long time - since 2007, in fact, and ironically, in almost exactly the same location. As Jorge Lorenzo pinned the throttle on his YZR M1 up the hill onto the front straight, the engine let go in a very major way, spewing smoke, flames, oil and coolant out of the back of the bike and all over the track, right into the braking area. The Fiat Yamaha rider quickly pointed his bike to the side of the track, but unfortunately, not before Ben Spies and Randy de Puniet had crashed on the oil, De Puniet banging his leg nastily on Spies' Monster Tech 3 Yamaha machine. While most of the attention was on De Puniet's injury, and the spectacular images Lorenzo's Yamaha had produced, belching smoke and flame like some kind of mythical fire serpent, thoughts in the paddock turned to the state of Lorenzo's engines. For this is the second engine that Lorenzo has lost: the Spaniard previous lost an engine during practice at Assen, that machine merely producing a few puffs of smoke, rather than belching great gouts of smoke and oil like the bike in Germany did. With less than eight of the sixteen races gone, Lorenzo has now lost two of the six engines that each rider has to last the season.read more Read article

Vermeulen abandons for rest of the season

Source: WORLDSBK.COM | NEWS - Tuesday, 13th July 2010, 9:58 GMT

Following the race 1 crash incident at Brno last weekend, Kawasaki Racing Team rider Chris Vermeulen suffered further damage to his already injured right knee. The original injury was sustained in Philip Island at the first round of the Superbike World Championship and although Chris returned to the team at Assen in April, his recovery has been very slow due to the severe ligament damage sustained. The latest damage has set back the recovery process and has reopened the question of whether reconstructive surgery is required to enable Chris to regain full use and control of the knee. As a result Chris will be suspending his race and test activities from the championship so that immediate corrective medical treatment can be sought without delay and to help ensure that Chris can return to full fitness in preparation for the 2011 Kawasaki Racing Team programme.
