World Superbike wild-card for Bridewell
Source: WORLDSBK.COM | NEWS - Tuesday, 20th July 2010, 8:03 GMTQuay Garage Honda rider Tommy Bridewell has secured a wild card entry for the Superbike World Championship round to be held at Silverstone on August 1st. The 21-year-old from Wiltshire will race the ex-Gregorio Lavilla Honda Fireblade against some of the world's best riders and will join seven other British riders contesting their home round. Bridewell's best result in this year's BSB championship is a fourth place at Cadwell Park in May. Bridewell is no stranger to World Championship action having raced as a wild card at Portimao in 2008 on a Suzuki GSX-R1000 K6 where he finished 25th overall. Tommy also raced in a handful of 2009 FIM Superstock 1000 Cup races for the Lorenzini by Leoni factory-supported Yamaha team with a best result of 13th at Valencia and has experience in the Suzuki GSX-R European Cup whereby he finished on the podium at Silverstone in 2006. Tommy Bridewell: "I'm absolutely delighted to be given the chance to race at my home round of the World Superbike Championship and can't wait to get going and to put on a good show. While we don't underestimate the level of competition, the old girl is still competitive and we have proven that already this season so it's our kind of stage and anything can happen. It's an additional drain on resources and the budget is tight for our BSB season so I'm planning on selling a couple of my toys to pay for it, which will be well worth it if I can put myself in the shop window by beating a few of the established stars and gaining a few points along the way." MSS raiding party go over the border for Knockhill
Source: British Superbikes - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Friday, 2nd July 2010, 16:14 GMTAs the British Superbike circus travels over the border to the Scottish Knockhill round, MSS Colchester Kawasaki riders Simon Andrews and Gary Mason look for a good points haul whilst Superstock star Howie Mainwaring has the series lead in his sights. Knockhill marks the mid-way point of the season but with the new series format, riders know that to be in with a chance of being in the top six Title Fighters group, they need big points before the final 'Showdown' phase kicks in at round nine at Croft. The picturesque, forest lined circuit has been good to the official Kawasaki squad over the years, with the team picking up good results in past events. At the corresponding round last year Simon scored a fine 4th and 6th placings so he knows that he and the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R work well together at this mountainside circuit. Simon has returned to the team with strong results at Mallory after a lengthy period of injury whilst Gary looks for a better set-up this time around. Howie returns refreshed after the Superstock teams took a sabbatical at Mallory following a double header race the week before at the Silverstone MotoGP. The 23-year-old heavy plant engineer lies second in a talent packed Championship field and is super keen to reel in series leader Jon Kirkham. MSS Junior Superstock rider Danny Buchan will ride a series double header at Knockhill but has never seen the track before. He must emulate his more senior team-mate Howie who was one of only a few riders not to have ridden the new Silverstone circuit. Simon commented, "I'm looking forward to Knockhill, I went well there last year and I'm happy with how Mallory panned out especially as it's the first time I have been on a Superbike since the Valencia crash. It's great to be back with Nick, Gary and everyone, it's really enjoyable. There is a small hope I can get into the Showdown if other people take some of my bad luck, but we will have to see." Gary said "I feel like I've got to turn it around at Knockhill, Mallory was really disappointing to be honest. It's a relatively simple track so you've just got to get stuck in and that's what I intend to do." Howie said "I feel really strong and up for the challenge at Knockhill after a mixed weekend at Silverstone for the GP. The plan this weekend is to keep maintaining good points as we're right there in the Championship chase, saying that I do feel right up for a win now!." MSS Colchester Kawasaki team boss Nick Morgan added "As a team we like Knockhill circuit and it's been good to us in the past. Simon has really bounced back with a vengeance and is looking for more. I think Gary will be motivated by that also and we need to help him get the right set-up to have the confidence to push. Howie knows he needs to beat Kirkham to reel in the points as he has big cushion behind him to the injured Steve Plater. It will be interesting to see how Danny gets on at his first trip to Knockhill, the last Junior Superstock race at Cadwell was pretty outrageous!" Read article
Pole in the Park for Hill
Source: British Superbikes - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Friday, 2nd July 2010, 10:36 GMTTommy Hill smashed the opposition at Cadwell Park this afternoon to set pole position in the Swan Combi Roll for Pole shootout ahead of tomorrow's fourth round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship. Hill had taken the early advantage on the Worx Crescent Suzuki in the final eight minute session, but it was frantic on circuit as Brookes, Rutter, and Michael Laverty also looked to steal the pole position in the final minutes. Hill powered the Worx Crescent Suzuki to consistently fast laps to annihilate the fastest laps of the weekend so far, but high-flying Brookes was on a charge but it wasn't enough for the HM Plant Honda to take the pole position. Hill said: "I am happy to be on pole; it is always the goal but to be honest we have struggled a bit this weekend and everyone is so fast I knew it would be tough. "We have changed the forks over several times and then went back to basics but now we are up here and that is the main thing. "We needed to be here though as it is so close between the top guys that anything less would have made life tough for race one." Gary Mason crashed out of the second qualifying session at Charlies whilst running in the top three; the MSS Colchester Kawasaki rider was unable to rejoin the track for the final Q3 knockout. MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship, Cadwell Park, Swan Roll for Pole result: 1. Tommy Hill (Worx Crescent Suzuki) 1:27.744 2. Josh Brookes (HM Plant Honda) +0.355s 3. Kiyonari and Brookes win amid dramatic action
Source: British Superbikes - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Friday, 2nd July 2010, 10:36 GMTRyuichi Kiyonari finally conquered the Cadwell Park circuit where victory, even in his two title winning years had eluded him with a stylish performance in the opener to the fourth round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship. The Japanese rider however was denied the opportunity of a winning double when his bike was sidelined on the warm-up lap by a technical problem ahead of the second race which was won by his HM Plant Honda team-mate Josh Brookes. Kiyonari made the perfect start to the first race at the Lincolnshire circuit which hosts the home races for his Louth based team - he charged through from the second row to lead with Tommy Hill in hot pursuit until he crashed heavily at Hall Bends on the fourth lap, by which time Stuart Easton had tipped off his Swan Honda at Charlies. Michael Rutter was running second to Kiyonari with Michael Laverty third while Brookes was riding hard to overcome a dreadful start. Laverty put his Relentless Suzuki into second place on the eighth lap and began to close on Kiyonari. Briefly with a couple of laps remaining Laverty moved ahead, but Kiyonari countered to take his first victory of the season, enthusing: "For me, very special, the team's home track, my home track. I try many times for this. "In earlier years, the team have private tests here for me, help me a lot, but no wins, till this one," he added. "This is the perfect week for me - my baby son Koma was born six days ago, now I win the race for him and my wife Madoka." Laverty took second from RidersMotorcycles.com Ducati rider Rutter with Tommy Bridewell fourth on the Quay Garage Honda from Brookes who was eager to make amends for that next time out. The Aussie ran second to Laverty on the opening lap, but then charged into the lead with a breathtaking move at Hall Bends and then controlled the race from the front, taking his second victory of the season. Hill, running fourth in the early stages, was soon upping the tempo and hounding first Rutter and then Laverty, moving into second place on lap 14, but next time around the action was red-flagged because of Dan Linfoot's tumble going up the Mountain. "I wanted to get out front, it is such a good feeling to there and to be pulling a gap," explained Brookes. "I made a good start, made some passes while the tyres were fresh and kept it smooth. If I'm not on the top step of the podium I get a bit annoyed, but that is the racer in me." Brookes took the victory which closes him within 36 points of Hill in the standings but Easton lost ground in the title chase as he trailed in a distant tenth place. Relentless Suzuki rider Laverty completed a solid day with third place ahead of Rutter while John Laverty took fifth for Buildbase Kawasaki ahead of Bridewell. Steve Brogan riding the Jentin BMW completed a daily double in the Mirror.co.uk BSB-EVO class to move within ten points of MAR Kawasaki rider Hudson Kennaugh who took second and third places, in the latter finishing adrift of Alex Lowes who was deputising on the Redline KTM for their injured James Edmeades. Haydon’s inside line to Knockhill
Source: British Superbikes - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Tuesday, 29th June 2010, 18:06 GMTWell looking ahead to this weekend I have to start with the HM Plant Honda team - they were so impressive at Mallory Park and really look like they have returned to their best again. I didn't really expect them to be so ahead of the others at Mallory Park and I have to say to see Kiyo back riding like how he did when he won the championship. He was really confident and it was a remarkable performance, so much so that I am sure that some of the others must be slightly worried as when he rides with form like that he is a very hard rider to beat. Josh Brookes though you could see rode really hard, as always and he just didn't have that little bit extra to catch his team-mate, but then you know he is one rider who doesn't give up without a fight so I wouldn't be surprised to see him back at Knockhill. It was a disaster for Tommy Hill and the Worx Crescent Suzuki team at Mallory Park, they had so much bad luck and all in one weekend that his lead has all but gone. A wheel sensor problem in race one then having to fight from the fourth row of the grid was a big ask, but an eighth place was damage limitation and that's what was important. He will be back on the case at Knockhill and Tommy knows what he has to do. Yukio though needs to be consistent, he has had some heavy crashes and he will be suffering for sure. It was weird for me to see Stuart Easton so far down at Mallory Park, whatever there problem is I am hope they have it sorted as they can't afford to be outside that top six come the end of the August Bank Holiday round at Cadwell Park. James Ellison scored points and I am sure he was in pain, but it was good to see him back and if he can do a little bit extra at Knockhill then he is definitely back on the way up. Michael Laverty on the Relentless Suzuki was another rider who I thought was impressive; he had his first ever podium in BSB at Knockhill so he will definitely be in with a shout. In the Motorpoint Yamaha garage, Andrew Pitt made his debut last weekend; I think he may have played it safe at Mallory Park as he adjust but I think we will see more of him this weekend. His team-mate Dan Linfoot just needs to build his consistency and score points without getting into trouble; the crash with Martin Jessopp wasn't his fault but he needs points on the board. Simon Andrews had a strong performance on his return with the MSS Colchester Kawasaki team; Gary Mason was a bit lacklustre so those two will be want to be back where they should be with that bike at Knockhill. Chris Walker did a brilliant job at Mallory Park and this type of track suits his style so I wouldn't be surprised to see another good performance from him this weekend. John Laverty was unlucky on the Buildbase Kawasaki so we might see more of him too at Knockhill; he has been unlucky there in the past so this could be his year. In the Mirror.co.uk BSB - Evo class Hudson Kennaugh may lead but I think Steve Brogan may just have the edge to put the BMW back up at the front. I used to love Knockhill - it was the last circuit I ever won at before I hung up the leathers so I will have a bit of envy of the boys this weekend, but whatever happens they will be too cracking races! Remember if you can't be there then you can watch the action live on British Eurosport 2. Read article
Brogie’s watch: Cadwell Park
Source: British Superbikes - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Monday, 28th June 2010, 6:24 GMTI am so excited about Cadwell Park as I can't wait to get some air over the Mountain - it is an awesome feeling. We tested at Silverstone after Oulton Park and we really got dialled in and we came away feeling more confident and it is looking good now for the weekend. I want those two Evo wins on Sunday as I want to close the gap now, there is no reason why we shouldn't, but we need 50 points in the bag as we have to claw some back. I like Cadwell Park, providing I have the results I am after of course! I have a new camper this weekend, the BMW is feeling awesome after our test and I want to be up there giving it large before the break. See you there Brogie Read article
