Ducati's domination was only broken by Troy Corser, who put his BMW S1000RR between Checa and the remainder of the Althea Ducati and Xerox Ducati teams. Michel Fabrizio took 3rd spot for the factory team, while Checa's teammate Shane Byrne took the final spot on the provisional front row. Championship leader Max Biaggi put his Alitalia Aprilia into 6th, while his main rival, Alstare Suzuki's Leon Haslam, could manage only the 11th fastest time. 2010 Nurburgring WSBK FP1 Result – Biaggi Edges The Ducati Hordes
Source: MotoMatters.com | Kropotkin Thinks - ... that Ducati out of WSBK is almost as big as Rossi to Ducati - Friday, 3rd September 2010, 11:50 GMTThe two days of practice that the Ducati team had at Mugello earlier this week appears to have paid off, and not just for Michel Fabrizio and Noriyuki Haga. The top of the timesheets was awash with Ducatis during the first session of free practice at the Nurburgring, with four of them in the top five positions. But it was not a Ducati in the very top spot, Max Biaggi setting the fastest time on the Alitalia Aprilia, and looking in good shape to lock down the World Superbike title as the series enters its final stages. Fabrizio was 2nd fastest, and just over five hundredths off Biaggi, while Althea Ducati's Carlos Checa interposed himself between Fabrizio and Haga in 4th. Places 5 through 8 were taken by the British contingent. Althea Ducati's Shane Byrne was the fastest Brit, ahead of Ten Kate Honda's Johnny Rea and Sterilgarda Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow in 7th. Championship contender Leon Haslam could only manage the 8th fastest time on the Alstare Suzuki, nearly two thirds of a second slower than Biaggi. Results: read more Read article

A look back at the Nurburgring
Source: WORLDSBK.COM | NEWS - Thursday, 2nd September 2010, 11:28 GMT2009 - Ben Spies had to face one tough weekend going into the Nurburgring round: Haga's shoulder had had time to heal and the circuit suited the Japanese rider, after he had scored a double in 2008. After qualifying the situation seemed clearly in favour of Haga, as Noriyuki took pole and his direct rival Spies, for the first time of the season, was left off the front row, gaining only a fifth place. At the start of race 1 Haga rocketed away followed by Biaggi and Spies, but a huge pile-up in the middle of the pack brought out the red flags; on the restart Haga was equally impressive and took the lead from Corser, Spies and Rea. In the following laps Haga was able to maintain a small advantage thanks to the fight between Spies and Rea behind him, while Corser slipped back. Spies was able to get rid of Rea after six laps and after four laps he was able to close on the Japanese rider. The American took the lead on lap 11, Haga fought back and was able to take the lead at the first corner, but his efforts were fruitless: on lap 17 he nearly hit Spies, while on the following lap he went wide. On the penultimate lap Spies raised his game, and carved out a decisive advantage over Haga, who had to settle for second. In race 2 the sky was overcast and the lower temperatures reshuffled the performances right from the start: Haga took the lead from Corser, Checa and Haslam, while Spies dropped to eighth. In the opening laps Haga was under attack by the Honda riders: Nori was able to stay in the lead, but he had trouble holding off Rea and Checa, so that at the fifth lap they crossed lines in a way that Jonathan touched Haga exiting the first corner, causing Noriyuki's fall. Rea took then the lead, while Checa wasn't able to contain Haslam and Spies, the couple went past on the seventh and ninth lap, leaving him behind. Spies tried then to get rid of Haslam, which overdid things going on the escape road at the Veedol chicane, and falling to fourth, passed also by Checa. Ben was then able to close the gap to Rea, but he was never able to mount a serious challenge: the second place, together with Haga's fall, allowed him to leave the Nurburgring for the first time at the top of the Championship table. 2008 - After ten years the Superbikes came back to the Nurburgring, finding out that the weather conditions were quite unpredictable: rain was often present and didn't help the riders to acclimatize with the track. Several crashes were recorded, two particularly heavy: the first by Kagayama, broken right hand; the second by Biaggi in the warm-up. The Italian suffered concussion in the left foot and he had to take the starts under considerable pain. The first race was a Bayliss-Haga duel: the pair took off after a few laps, leaving behind Neukirchner, Fabrizio and Corser. Bayliss had troubles at the first corner: he made several mistakes there, until the seventeenth lap, when he went up the escape road, leaving a four-second advantage to Haga, who won the race. Race 2 was a private affair for the works Yamaha riders Haga and Corser, once again helped by Bayliss' mistakes: Troy fell behind after a handful of laps. Neukirchner was able to stay with the aforementioned duo for eighth laps, but he too had to raise the flag. Once alone, Corser and Haga didn't ease off and swapped places several times. On the sixteenth lap, it looked like Corser was able to get the better of Haga with a spectacular move on the outside at the first corner, but during the same lap the rain started to fall, the race was stopped and the classification taken two laps before, so that Haga was able to score the double. Two fifth places for Michael Rutter at Cadwell Park
Source: British Superbike News - Wednesday, 1st September 2010, 12:13 GMTMichael Rutter While Honda’s HM Plant rider Josh Brookes treated the spectators to a spectacular riding display at the Cadwell track over the weekend other riders were struggling to find a good set up, among them RidersMotorcycles.com Ducati rider Michael Rutter who has been in incredible form up to this point in the season. The Ducati team had their work cut out getting Rutter’s bike to work around the Cadwell circuit, but the rider did manage two impressive, under the circumstances, fifth place finishes. Having already secured a place in the final showdown Rutter will be relishing the final three rounds at Croft, Oulton Park and Silverstone. He starts the showdown on 510 points, just fifteen behind leaders Ryuichi Kiyonari and Tommy Hill and will fancy his chances as much as the next man for the Championship title. With much talk about the inclement late season weather that may play its part in the final showdown, Rutter may even have the upper hand on his rivals, with the Ducati perfectly suited to the three remaining tracks and the rider himself loving to race at each of them. RidersMotorcycles.com Team Owner Phil Jessopp said after the races on Monday; “Michael and the team did a great job this weekend under difficult circumstances. We’ve achieved exactly what we wanted from the nine-round regular season – to qualify for the Showdown. Michael is riding really well and the bike is flying. We know that Michael goes well at all the final three circuits and the Ducati works well at each of them so we have to be confident of our chances in the fight for the 2010 BSB title.” Looking forward to the final showdown, Rutter said; “This isn’t my favourite place and it’s been a tough weekend for everyone in the team to get the bike working well around here but the ridersmotorcycle.com ducati crew has worked well and I’m pretty pleased with the results. To be honest, with the new points system there was no point in risking everything just to pass the person in front of me. I’m qualified for the final as one of the six ‘Title Fighters’ and we’ve got as good a chance of winning the title as any of the other riders. The final three rounds at Croft, Silverstone and Oulton Park are all perfectly suited to the Ducati and are tracks I love to race on so I’m really looking forward to the challenge.” Read article
