MSS raiding party go over the border for Knockhill
Source: British Superbikes - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Friday, 2nd July 2010, 16:14 GMTAs the British Superbike circus travels over the border to the Scottish Knockhill round, MSS Colchester Kawasaki riders Simon Andrews and Gary Mason look for a good points haul whilst Superstock star Howie Mainwaring has the series lead in his sights. Knockhill marks the mid-way point of the season but with the new series format, riders know that to be in with a chance of being in the top six Title Fighters group, they need big points before the final 'Showdown' phase kicks in at round nine at Croft. The picturesque, forest lined circuit has been good to the official Kawasaki squad over the years, with the team picking up good results in past events. At the corresponding round last year Simon scored a fine 4th and 6th placings so he knows that he and the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R work well together at this mountainside circuit. Simon has returned to the team with strong results at Mallory after a lengthy period of injury whilst Gary looks for a better set-up this time around. Howie returns refreshed after the Superstock teams took a sabbatical at Mallory following a double header race the week before at the Silverstone MotoGP. The 23-year-old heavy plant engineer lies second in a talent packed Championship field and is super keen to reel in series leader Jon Kirkham. MSS Junior Superstock rider Danny Buchan will ride a series double header at Knockhill but has never seen the track before. He must emulate his more senior team-mate Howie who was one of only a few riders not to have ridden the new Silverstone circuit. Simon commented, "I'm looking forward to Knockhill, I went well there last year and I'm happy with how Mallory panned out especially as it's the first time I have been on a Superbike since the Valencia crash. It's great to be back with Nick, Gary and everyone, it's really enjoyable. There is a small hope I can get into the Showdown if other people take some of my bad luck, but we will have to see." Gary said "I feel like I've got to turn it around at Knockhill, Mallory was really disappointing to be honest. It's a relatively simple track so you've just got to get stuck in and that's what I intend to do." Howie said "I feel really strong and up for the challenge at Knockhill after a mixed weekend at Silverstone for the GP. The plan this weekend is to keep maintaining good points as we're right there in the Championship chase, saying that I do feel right up for a win now!." MSS Colchester Kawasaki team boss Nick Morgan added "As a team we like Knockhill circuit and it's been good to us in the past. Simon has really bounced back with a vengeance and is looking for more. I think Gary will be motivated by that also and we need to help him get the right set-up to have the confidence to push. Howie knows he needs to beat Kirkham to reel in the points as he has big cushion behind him to the injured Steve Plater. It will be interesting to see how Danny gets on at his first trip to Knockhill, the last Junior Superstock race at Cadwell was pretty outrageous!" Read article
Kiyonari “at home” in BSB
Source: Insidebikes | Carole Nash » BSB - Friday, 21st May 2010, 17:10 GMTDouble British Superbike champion Ryuichi Kiyonari has claimed that he feels “at home” as be prepared to make his return to the British domestic competition this weekend at Brands Hatch. The Japanese rider will make his permanent return to British Superbikes this weekend after agreeing to come back to the HM Plant Honda team for 2010, three years after leaving for World Superbikes. And after previously making a wildcard appearance at Croft last season, Kiyonari will be going into the championship as one of the favourites this season, with many tipping him to add to his 2007 and 2006 titles on his return. “I am feeling excited about Brands Hatch as I am really pleased to be back racing in BSB,” he claimed. “I have said it before but I am really happy about coming back to the HM Plant Honda team as I feel like I have come home. We have done lots of testing and the bike feels completely different to the one I rode when I won the championship in 2007. It has different engine characteristics, different suspension and also runs on Pirelli tyres. “The Brands Hatch Indy circuit can be difficult as it is very close and the laps go fast so I think qualifying is going to be very important there. I really like Brands Hatch as there is always a big crowd and I have missed Paddock Hill Bend! The tests have gone well in Spain and Cadwell Park and the Fireblade is getting better all the time. We still have some improvements to make, but we can do this at Brands Hatch as we have the extra session on Good Friday. I am ready for the comeback!” Read article

BSB: Champion Kiyonari joins Brookes at HM Plant Honda
Source: British Superbikes 2009 - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Wednesday, 10th March 2010, 12:08 GMTHM Plant Honda have arguably their strongest line-up in recent seasons ahead of the 2010 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship with the team announcing today (Monday) the return of former double BSB champion Ryuichi Kiyonari alongside Josh Brookes. Kiyonari won two consecutive titles for the Louth-based team in 2006 and 2007 and now the Japanese ace is returning to BSB from the world stage after making an appearance with the team at the Croft round of the championship back in September. Kiyonari is the second former BSB champion to join the grid for 2010 after 2000 champion Neil Hodgson announced his return with the Motorpoint Yamaha team. Kiyonari said: "I am really looking forward to my return to BSB and working with the HM Plant Honda team again as some of my best times were with them. "I don't know what to expect as I know that BSB is never easy and very competitive but I will be giving it everything. "I move back to the UK in January, which is great as I love it there and then we start testing so we are ready for the start of the season." Brookes returns to BSB next season following his meteoric debut in the championship in 2009 with the HM Plant Honda team, taking ten podium finishes and ending his maiden season fourth in the overall standings despite missing nine races. Brookes said: "I am definitely excited about coming back and I now know the whole process so there won't be any of the issues I had at the start of this season. "I come back for my second season knowing the tracks, knowing the competition and having more of an idea of what to expect whereas last year was my first season so it was all unknown. "I have an advantage now as I am back home in Australia training hard and keeping myself sharp; I have been motocrossing and that speed and focus translates to road racing so I am feeling ready. "I am feeling really positive about next season and ready to take steps forward with the team next year as soon as we start testing. Donington dropped from BSB calendar
Source: Insidebikes | Carole Nash - Monday, 28th December 2009, 15:09 GMTDonington Park has been dropped from the British Superbike Championship calendar for 2010 after series organisers deemed the circuit as unsuitable for hosting a championship round. The East Midland’s circuit, currently in administration following a failed attempt to attract F1 racing and a stalled redevelopment programme; will not host the round on September 10/11/12. Series rights holder MSVR claimed that the circuit was in an “unusable condition” and that uncertainty surrounding the Donington round in 2009 was “clearly unacceptable”. Croft will now host the BSB round on September 10/11/12, whilst Cadwell Park will be the venue on May 21/22/23. A statement from MSVR read: “The Donington circuit operating companies entered into administration last month and the track is currently in an unusable condition. Earlier this year several planned race meetings were cancelled and the BSB round was only able to be confirmed as going ahead eight days before the event, which was quite unsatisfactory. Such uncertainty is clearly unacceptable for the teams, series organisers and spectators.” MSVR Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer said; “It is very important for the teams, our broadcast and commercial partners and above all the fans that we prepare a calendar consisting of venues where there is no doubt about whether or not the event will actually take place. The prospect of a second event at Cadwell Park in May will I’m sure be great news for the many thousands of fans that already flock to the August Bank Holiday meeting.” Other minor changes in the month of July see Knockhill moving to July 2/3/4 and Snetterton to July 16/17/18. It is not yet clear as to the future of other events planned to be held at Donington, with question marks remaining over the British round of the World Superbike championship. Read article
