Brookes in last lap ambush

Source: British Superbikes - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Saturday, 17th July 2010, 19:00 GMT

HM Plant Honda's Josh Brookes won the opening race of the weekend at Snetterton after a stealth last lap move on his team-mate Ryuichi Kiyonari, who had led the entire race until he was passed by his championship-leading team-mate. Brookes said: "I had the pace but made it hard on myself with a bad start. My lap times were strong and I was looking for places to get ahead of Kiyo and was lining him up in several places. "He was very strong though and our bikes are equally matched so I went for a lunge on the last lap as I knew I could win if I could get ahead. I muscled my way through and to have won again is a great result for me as I have increased my lead over Tommy." Kiyonari had taken the holeshot off the line on the opening lap to lead the pack into Riches for the first time ahead of the Relentless Suzukis of Michael Laverty and Alastair Seeley and Tommy Hill. The Worx Crescent Suzuki of Hill though was on the attack and made a move on Seeley into Riches and a good run on the second lap put him third and within striking distance of leader Kiyonari and Laverty. Brookes had finished the opening lap in ninth and had given himself work to do to close the gap on his Japanese team-mate who was holding an advantage of 0.5s over Hill in by the fifth lap. He was making rapid process through the pack though; passing Seeley, Rutter and Michael Laverty then closed on to the back of rival Hill by the seventh lap. Brookes made his move at Riches on his Worx Crescent Suzuki nemesis, taking the inside line on the brakes to put himself firmly ahead and he then had his sights set on closing the gap to leader Kiyonari. He was soon menacingly shadowing his team-mate and despite several attempts to make a pass the lead was defended, but on the final lap a concerted move down the inside at Riches gave him the lead which he held to the flag to score his third win of the season. Hill maintained his third position, despite several attempts from Rutter to return to a podium position, whilst Alastair Seeley ended the race fifth after getting the better of team-mate Laverty on the eleventh lap. James Ellison took a top ten finish despite starting from the sixth row to recover from a disappointing day on track yesterday during free practice, but the second Swan Honda of Stuart Easton was forced to retire on the sixth lap with a technical problem. Simon Andrews was the highest placed Kawasaki for the MSS Colchester team in eighth ahead of team-mate Gary Mason who clawed his way through to ninth with Tommy Bridewell rounding out the top ten. Steve Brogan finished sixteenth to win the Mirror.co.uk BSB - Evo race. MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship, Snetterton, race one result: 1. Josh Brookes (HM Plant Honda) 2. Brookes breaks Seeley’s spell

Source: British Superbikes - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Friday, 16th July 2010, 16:43 GMT

HM Plant Honda's Josh Brookes returned to the top of the times in the second free practice session at Snetterton this afternoon, dispelling Relentless Suzuki's Alastair Seeley who had topped the session until the final five minutes. Brookes said: "It has been a pleasant return here after the past two rounds; I don't really like Mallory Park and then Knockhill was ruined due to the weather. "This track is great for Superbikes and you can really utilise the full speed on the straights here and the turns are so flowing. "I am therefore enjoying it more and when you ride like that it gives you more confidence and the times just come. "This is the best practice day I have had this year and the first time I have topped two consecutive free practice sessions so I am feeling really positive now ahead of the first race tomorrow." Seeley proved he is going to be a threat this weekend at Snetterton after he flew to the top of the pack, becoming the first rider to break into the 1m:05s lap times, but Brookes bettered that lap by 0.120s to maintain his commanding position. Michael Rutter shuffled between second and third throughout the session, but the Ridersmotorcycles.com Ducati rider was able to stay third ahead of Tommy Hill who elevated the Worx Crescent Suzuki in the final three minutes to move fourth with Motorpoint Yamaha's Dan Linfoot in fifth. Michael Laverty dropped to sixth in the closing stages of the session on the second of the Relentless Suzukis with Quay Garage Honda's Tommy Bridewell pushing forward in seventh to separate the Laverty brothers. John Laverty had run as high as third in the session but finished eighth for the Buildbase Kawasaki team with Andrew Pitt climbing to ninth. Sorrymate.com SMT Honda's Chris Walker was back inside the top ten this afternoon after just missing out this morning, whilst Swan Honda riders James Ellison and Stuart Easton were suffering in twelfth and fifteenth respectively. Likewise the second HM Plant Honda of Ryuichi Kiyonari was only fourteenth fastest. Steve Brogan was the fastest of the Mirror.co.uk BSB - Evo riders in sixteenth. Laverty launches to P1 at Knockhill

Source: British Superbikes - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Friday, 2nd July 2010, 16:50 GMT

Relentless Suzuki stole the show this afternoon in the second free practice session at Knockhill as Michael Laverty became the only rider on track to dip into a 48 second lap time ahead of tomorrow's qualifying shootout. Laverty improved his time at the mid-way point to assert his authority over his championship rivals despite coming under fire from the Honda contingent. Josh Brookes was the fastest of those in second on the leading HM Plant Honda, firing himself to second in the final ten minutes. Stuart Easton remained third fastest on the Swan Honda, despite running second to Laverty with 20 minutes remaining of the session with Ryuichi Kiyonari also spending a time just behind Laverty until he dropped to fourth. Michael Rutter waited until the dying seconds to move five fastest on the Ridersmotorcycles.com Ducati ahead of championship leader Tommy Hill who was only able to set a time to put him sixth overall ahead of Tommy Bridewell on the Quay Garage Honda. Alastair Seeley was back inside the top ten in eighth ahead of Chris Walker and the leading Kawasaki of Buildbase-backed John Laverty. James Ellison dropped just outside the top ten in 12th with Motorpoint Yamaha's Andrew Pitt 14th. David Johnson was the fastest of the Mirror.co.uk BSB - Evo contenders to edge out Steve Brogan and Aaron Zanotti. Haydon’s inside line to Knockhill

Source: British Superbikes - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Tuesday, 29th June 2010, 18:06 GMT

Well looking ahead to this weekend I have to start with the HM Plant Honda team - they were so impressive at Mallory Park and really look like they have returned to their best again. I didn't really expect them to be so ahead of the others at Mallory Park and I have to say to see Kiyo back riding like how he did when he won the championship. He was really confident and it was a remarkable performance, so much so that I am sure that some of the others must be slightly worried as when he rides with form like that he is a very hard rider to beat. Josh Brookes though you could see rode really hard, as always and he just didn't have that little bit extra to catch his team-mate, but then you know he is one rider who doesn't give up without a fight so I wouldn't be surprised to see him back at Knockhill. It was a disaster for Tommy Hill and the Worx Crescent Suzuki team at Mallory Park, they had so much bad luck and all in one weekend that his lead has all but gone. A wheel sensor problem in race one then having to fight from the fourth row of the grid was a big ask, but an eighth place was damage limitation and that's what was important. He will be back on the case at Knockhill and Tommy knows what he has to do. Yukio though needs to be consistent, he has had some heavy crashes and he will be suffering for sure. It was weird for me to see Stuart Easton so far down at Mallory Park, whatever there problem is I am hope they have it sorted as they can't afford to be outside that top six come the end of the August Bank Holiday round at Cadwell Park. James Ellison scored points and I am sure he was in pain, but it was good to see him back and if he can do a little bit extra at Knockhill then he is definitely back on the way up. Michael Laverty on the Relentless Suzuki was another rider who I thought was impressive; he had his first ever podium in BSB at Knockhill so he will definitely be in with a shout. In the Motorpoint Yamaha garage, Andrew Pitt made his debut last weekend; I think he may have played it safe at Mallory Park as he adjust but I think we will see more of him this weekend. His team-mate Dan Linfoot just needs to build his consistency and score points without getting into trouble; the crash with Martin Jessopp wasn't his fault but he needs points on the board. Simon Andrews had a strong performance on his return with the MSS Colchester Kawasaki team; Gary Mason was a bit lacklustre so those two will be want to be back where they should be with that bike at Knockhill. Chris Walker did a brilliant job at Mallory Park and this type of track suits his style so I wouldn't be surprised to see another good performance from him this weekend. John Laverty was unlucky on the Buildbase Kawasaki so we might see more of him too at Knockhill; he has been unlucky there in the past so this could be his year. In the Mirror.co.uk BSB - Evo class Hudson Kennaugh may lead but I think Steve Brogan may just have the edge to put the BMW back up at the front. I used to love Knockhill - it was the last circuit I ever won at before I hung up the leathers so I will have a bit of envy of the boys this weekend, but whatever happens they will be too cracking races! Remember if you can't be there then you can watch the action live on British Eurosport 2. Read article

Brogie’s watch: Cadwell Park

Source: British Superbikes - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Monday, 28th June 2010, 6:24 GMT

I am so excited about Cadwell Park as I can't wait to get some air over the Mountain - it is an awesome feeling. We tested at Silverstone after Oulton Park and we really got dialled in and we came away feeling more confident and it is looking good now for the weekend. I want those two Evo wins on Sunday as I want to close the gap now, there is no reason why we shouldn't, but we need 50 points in the bag as we have to claw some back. I like Cadwell Park, providing I have the results I am after of course! I have a new camper this weekend, the BMW is feeling awesome after our test and I want to be up there giving it large before the break. See you there Brogie Read article

Rutter kicks off Cadwell Park party

Source: British Superbikes - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Monday, 28th June 2010, 6:24 GMT

Ridersmotorcycles.com Ducati's Michael Rutter held off championship leader Tommy Hill and the high-flying Josh Brookes to end the opening day of two hectic free practice sessions at a scorching Cadwell Park fastest to assert his authority ahead of tomorrow's qualifying. Rutter had been second this morning, but with Martin Jessopp suffering a technical problem after just four laps on the second Ducati, the 'Blade' was left to fly the flag and did so in spectacular style to take the top from Hill with ten minutes remaining. Brookes had been wowing the crowd at the Mountain today with his sensational style on the leading HM Plant Honda and ended the session this afternoon third fastest but promises more of his airborne antics tomorrow ahead of Sunday's race day. The second HM Plant Honda of Ryuichi Kiyonari was fourth fastest as he moved up the times towards the closing stages ahead of a hard-charging Michael Laverty on the Relentless Suzuki and the lone Swan Honda of Stuart Easton. Jessopp was seventh despite only completing a handful of laps on the Ridersmotorcycles.com Ducati with John Laverty back inside the top ten on the Buildbase Kawasaki in eighth after edging out Tommy Bridewell and Chris Walker. Steve Brogan was the fastest of the Mirror.co.uk BSB - Evo riders in 15th overall with the Splitlath Aprilia Chris Burns second of the Evo contenders.
