Dani Pedrosa grasped his fourth pole position of the year at San Marino this afternoon, to edge out Jorge Lorenzo for the privilege. As the session was coming to an end Pedrosa leapt into the lead on his final lap, to push Lorenzo back to second. Championship leader Lorenzo had held the top spot earlier on in the qualifying hour before chief rival Pedrosa put in a quickest time of 1:33.948, as the only rider to sneak beneath the 1:34 times. Casey Stoner slotted into third to complete the front row of the grid, after some handy work from his team to repair a damaged Ducati. Stoner had taken the lead in the early stages of the outing, however after crashing not long afterwards he was forced out temporarily while his team worked their magic. Valentino Rossi set the fourth fastest time at his home race, with Ben Spies and Randy De Puniet joining Rossi on the second row of the grid. Colin Edwards and Andrea Dovizioso are next on the grid in seventh and eighth, respectively, with San Carlo Honda Gresini teammates Marco Simoncelli and Marco Melandri completing the top ten. Commenting on his pole position, Pedrosa told MotoGP.com: “I’m happy to be on pole position because we were strong throughout practice and things have gone according to plan so far this weekend. We are doing a very good job at the moment, improving at every round and now we have the chance to have another good race. Spies takes maiden pole at home

Local hero Ben Spies secured his first pole position in MotoGP today, ahead of tomorrow’s race at the infamous Indianapolis circuit in America. After recording a blinding lap just two laps from the end of the session Spies rocketed to his first pole position in the premier class, just beating championship leader Jorge Lorenzo to the privilege. To ensure the American fans were given a top show, Spies’ countryman Nicky Hayden completed the front row of the grid in third. After previously holding provisional pole position earlier on in the session, Andrea Dovizioso was bumped down the order to fourth, narrowly missing out on a front row starting position. Meanwhile, his Repsol Honda teammate, Dani Pedrosa secured a fifth place start, firmly insight of the front of the grid. Despite setting the fastest time in both free practice sessions earlier in the day, Casey Stoner could only manage sixth fastest, just ahead of a frustrated Valentino Rossi in seventh, regardless of the Italian falling from his FIAT Yamaha with around five minutes of the session remaining. Marco Simoncelli also suffered a crash during the frantic qualifying session, however still secured an eighth place starting position. Just behind, Colin Edwards and Loris Capirossi will complete the top ten, lining up ninth and tenth, respectively. Just out of the top ten, Alvaro Bautista will start eleventh, with Marco Melandri and Hiroshi Aoyama twelfth and thirteenth. Dani Pedrosa has secured his third pole position of the season at Brno this afternoon, finishing off an eventful session to head the field. The Repsol Honda rider managed to fend off an attack from Ben Spies, with the American looking as though he would steal his first MotoGP pole position. Championship leader Jorge Lorenzo will start from third tomorrow, despite a fall part way through the session. Casey Stoner heads up the second row of the grid, whilst reigning World Champion Valentino Rossi will start from fifth. Rossi joined his FIAT Yamaha teammate Lornezo in suffering a fall, but still managed a strong fifth place. Andrea Dovizioso will complete the second row, just pipping Colin Edwards to the post. Nicky Hayden and Hector Barbera will join Edwards on the third row of the grid, qualifying eighth and ninth respectively, whilst Loris Capirossi completes the top ten. A delighted Randy De Puniet soared to a pleasing eleventh place during qualifying, after breaking his leg just a few races ago. Marco Simoncelli secured a twelfth place start, whilst Mika Kallio will line up thirteenth. Marco Melandri qualified fourteenth, with Alex De Angelis fifteenth and Aleix Espargaro sixteenth.
