BSB: Camier: Who I think will be the new number one in 2010

Source: British Superbikes - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Friday, 26th March 2010, 18:27 GMT

The outcome of the 2010 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship is tough to predict; the main title contenders were equally matched in recent pre-season testing and it is almost impossible to know who will leave Brands Hatch leading the title. So who better to predict the 2010 top five than reigning BSB champion Leon Camier? Ahead of this weekend's round of the World Superbike Championship the reigning champion gives his thoughts on who will be the ones to watch this season. Camier said: "I think Josh Brookes has got it all going for him this year. He's spent a year getting to know the British tracks and adjusting to the bike and the team. "I think his move within the garage to work with Chris Pike will work out really well for him. But more than anything, he's fast, consistent and without doubt has the physical and mental strength to go out and there and get the job done. "If I had to pick anyone to challenge Josh for the title this year it would be Easton. Without a doubt he will be a big threat. Again, I'd say he's fast and consistent, and rarely makes a mistake. "My old team-mate from last season is next on my list. James is back with his Honda team from 2008. "He should feel at home straight away and I'd place him third, or higher if all of the pieces fall in the right place for him. "The last two places are quite hard for me to decide between. You've got two former BSB champions back in the series which should be really interesting to watch. "You've got Hodgson who's been over racing in AMA for the last few seasons, but is also an ex-World champion on GSE Racing's bikes from last year. "Then you have double BSB champion Kiyo. He's back with his old team and Crew Chief which will be a plus for him. I think if he can get his confidence back quickly enough, he'll be a contender for sure." Camier's top five predictions for the 2010 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship: 1. Josh Brookes (HM Plant Honda) 2. Stuart Easton (Swan Honda) 3. James Ellison (Swan Honda) 4. Neil Hodgson (Motorpoint Yamaha) 5. Ryuichi Kiyonari (HM Plant Honda) Brands Hatch hosts the opening round of the 2010 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship on Easter weekend (2/3/4/5 April). Ellison relishing Cartagena test

Source: Insidebikes | Carole Nash » BSB - Wednesday, 3rd March 2010, 10:35 GMT

James Ellison will get his first opportunity to test the Swan Honda this week as he prepares for a four day BSB test in Cartagena. Ellison, who was left without a ride in the championship for 2010 following the withdrawal of GSE Racing, signed up with the team that he left last year to join Airwaves Yamaha and the 2009 runner up will get the chance to try his hand at pushing the CBR1000RR once again during the four day test, which will be quickly followed by another shakedown at Guadix. “I am really excited about testing now, it seems to have been a long wait but it will be worth it,” he claimed. “This is the first time for us to test the Swan Honda and we are going to use the four days at Cartagena as a bit of a shakedown before we get serious at Guadix next week. We can find a good base setting in the first few days and then we can really make a break and get serious with the times. “I have been to the workshop and I have seen how hard the team have been working to be prepared for this test so now I am looking forward to getting out there and getting this show on the road.” Teammate Stuart Easton, who impressed during the latter stages of 2009, was equally positive about the forthcoming test and was relishing an early opportunity to compare where the team is in relation to their BSB rivals. “I am feeling really positive about the start of the season,” said the Scot. “I already have a good feeling with the Swan Honda as I have ridden it for a year and we made some really good progress at the end of 2009. I think the Spanish tests at Cartagena and Guadix will help me to progress even further with set-up and overall this can only put us in a stronger position ahead of the start of the season. We have a good idea on what we need to achieve whilst we are in Spain and we want to leave there ready to win at Brands Hatch.” Read article

BSB: Hodgson set for sensational comeback

Source: British Superbikes 2009 - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Wednesday, 24th February 2010, 8:14 GMT

Former British and World Superbike Champion Neil Hodgson will make his much anticipated return to the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship next season after signing for the Motorpoint Yamaha team. Hodgson returns to the UK after racing in the AMA Championship and securing the WSB crown in 2003. Hodgson last raced in BSB back in 2000 when he took the title for the GSE Racing team after a season-long battle with arch rival Chris Walker. The title fight went down to the wire at Donington Park for the final round of the championship following one of the most memorable seasons in BSB history. Hodgson said: ""I can't wait to move back to BSB and the UK; at the end of the day I have raced on the world stage and in the States and now I want to come back to where it all started and there is definitely a good feeling on coming home. "It certainly wasn't a difficult decision for me to come back to BSB next season, especially with Yamaha as that has been the bike to win on this year. "It has been successful in BSB with Leon (Camier) and James (Ellison) and also in AMA with Ben (Bostrom) and Josh (Hayes), then that doesn't include on the world stage with Ben (Spies) and Cal (Crutchlow). "I am really excited about returning to BSB and it has been a dream to come back next season. "As a rider you never know which way your career is going to go; for sure when you are on the world stage you want to be there as long as you can, but in America I have been through some tough seasons, especially with the injury last year and now I am ready to come home. "It is a personal choice for me to return to BSB and I am as motivated now as I was ten years ago when I won the title, if not more." Read article

GSE Racing Facing Withdrawal From British Superbikes In 2010

Source: BritishSuperbikeNews.co.uk - Thursday, 18th February 2010, 12:58 GMT

GSE Racing 2009 The reigning champion British Superbike team GSE Racing are today facing withdrawal from the British Superbike Championship of 2010 unless a sponsor is found before the end of the year. Towards the end of the season the team announced that their partnership with Wrigley’s Airwaves would be coming to an end after the years finale.  Since that time no suitable replacement has been found leaving the team without the necessary funding to compete in the 2010 season. Team Principle Darrell Healey said; “It is with great regret that we have had to issue the team with their notice of redundancy, with a view to withdrawing from the British Superbike Championship at the end of 2009.  We have enjoyed tremendously our time racing in the most competitive domestic superbike series in the world, and therefore this decision was not taken lightly.  Alongside Yamaha, we will be doing all we can to try and secure a partner in the remaining time available, and greatly hope we an return to once again successfully defend our championship title.” Team Manager Colin Wright added; “Everyone at GSE Racing is incredibly saddened that we may no longer be able to compete in the British Superbike Championship. We enjoyed our most successful season ever in 2009. Leon Camier and James Ellison were the only two riders to have finished every race in the points (barring Leon’s exclusion at Cadwell) and we enjoyed numerous double race wins and double one two’s on our way to first and second in the Championship standings. We were very much looking forward to continuing this success on into 2010 as we entered our second year in partnership with Yamaha, but unfortunately it looks like this will now not be. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the whole team for their unrivalled dedication and hard work, our previous sponsors for their support, and of course the British Superbike fans.” Read article

Ellison secures ride with Swan Honda

Source: Insidebikes | Carole Nash - Monday, 8th February 2010, 9:03 GMT

James Ellison has secured a ride in the British Superbikes Championship for 2010 after signing with the Swan Honda team to form arguably the strongest rider line-up in the championship with Stuart Easton. After finishing the season as runner up last year, Ellison was left without a ride for 2010 after GSE Racing pulled out of the championship due to lack of funds but Swan Honda team manager Shaun Muir has managed to find a place for the 29-year-old at the team that he left in 2008 to join GSE Racing. “I’m so grateful to Shaun Muir and SMR for giving me the opportunity to race in BSB this year,” said Ellison. “I know the whole Swan Honda team have pulled out all the stops to give me this chance to fight for the title. It’s been a very difficult winter not knowing if I would be racing, as I was left in a really difficult position at the end of 2009. I knew that if I had any chance of winning the championship it was with this team, so my first phone call was to Shaun when I was left without a ride. “The team was strong when I was with them in 2008, but they have moved on so much since then. This is all down to their work ethic and solid team structure, which is exactly what I need to go one better in the championship this year. I class the team as family and I know the Honda like the back of my hand, so I’m confident we will be strong out of the gates and I am really looking forward to working with my old crew chief Mick Shanley again. I want to thank my fans, friends, family and my wife Sarah for standing by me and always believing in me; I promise I won’t let you down this year.” Read article

Ellison still searching for 2010 ride

Source: Insidebikes | Carole Nash - Wednesday, 3rd February 2010, 11:48 GMT

James Ellison has revealed that he is still desperately searching for a ride in the British Superbike Championship next season following the withdrawal of GSE Racing. Last year’s BSB runner up was left without a ride following the decision of GSE Racing, the most successful team in the series, to drop out of the championship due to financial shortfalls following the loss of main sponsor Wrigleys. That has left Ellison searching for a new team despite having his best ever season last year and although talks are lined up in the coming weeks; it is still “nothing to report” as far as the former Hydrex Honda rider is concerned. “There is nothing really that exciting to report at the moment,” Ellison told the official BSB website. “I have just been spending a lot of time in the saddle riding the bike outside, and indoors on the trainer when the weather decides to take a turn for the worse. The weather here is like nowhere I’ve been before - you can get sunburn one day and frostbite the next. It’s crazy! “If I’m not pedalling, running or doing some form of exercise, I’ll be sending e-mails trying to sort things out for this season. I’m definitely ready to get back on a motorbike again. I hate being away from them for this long, as it feels like I’ve lost a limb! At the moment I’m so looking forward to getting out on my enduro bike when I get back to the UK, and also doing a spot of mountain biking with The Kendal Massive. “I’m hoping my persistence this winter will have paid off and I can give my fans the news they have been waiting for. I have some meetings to attend back home this month, which will decide the fate of this upcoming season. It looks like it will be a really strong field this year, so I’d hate to miss out on the challenge!” Read article

GSE Racing quit BSB

Source: Insidebikes | Carole Nash - Wednesday, 27th January 2010, 9:46 GMT

GSE Racing has confirmed that the team will not be competing in the 2010 British Superbike Championship after failing to secure a title sponsor. The team, who have won the last two BSB titles with both Yamaha and Ducati machinery, were hit with a financial blow last year when Wrigley’s announced that they would not be continuing with their backing of the Airwaves Yamaha team for the new season. That has left the team, who clocked up their 100th BSB race victory last year in their best ever season, winning 23 races from 26, enough to earn them the team and rider Leon Camier the riders’ titles, desperately searching for a backer. In December, staff at the team were given redundancy notices and the team has now confirmed that they will not be entering a team for 2010. “We’ve had a couple of offers, but nothing substantial has materialised, so we are to withdraw from the 2010 British Superbike Championship,” said team owner Darrell Healey. “We would like to come back in 2011, but it would all depend on the economic climate and if we can find sponsors. I suppose you could say the team is dormant at the moment. We would like to stay involved in motorcycle racing. “It’s a massive shame because before Christmas we had to let all but two of the team members go and some of these people had been with us for several years.” Read article

GSE staff get redunancy notices as team hints at BSB withdrawal

Source: Insidebikes | Carole Nash - Monday, 28th December 2009, 15:09 GMT

Redundancy notices have been given to staff at GSE Racing at the British Superbikes Championship’s most successful team looks set to disband. Staff at the team have been informed that their jobs are at risk as the team continues to struggle to find a sponsor for the 2010 season. Airwaves Yamaha, who took the championship by storm in 2010 with 23 race victories from 26 last season, were hit with a setback that title-sponsor Wrigley’s would not continue their support of the team in 2010, ending a five-year association. The financial crisis, which has hit all forms of motorsport hard, has made it difficult for the team to find a new corporate backed and team boss Colin Wright has suggested that the team may not be able to compete next season. “Everyone at GSE Racing is incredibly saddened that we may no longer be able to compete in the British Superbike Championship. We enjoyed our most successful season ever in 2009,” said Wright. “Leon Camier and James Ellison were the only two riders to have finished every race in the points (barring Leon’s exclusion at Cadwell) and we enjoyed numerous double race wins and double one-twos on our way to first and second in the Championship standings. “We were very much looking forward to continuing this success on into 2010 as we entered our second year in partnership with Yamaha, but unfortunately it looks like this will now not be. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the whole team for their unrivalled dedication and hard work, our previous sponsors for their support, and of course the British Superbike fans.” Read article
