As the session was coming to an end Pedrosa leapt into the lead on his final lap, to push Lorenzo back to second. Casey Stoner slotted into third to complete the front row of the grid, after some handy work from his team to repair a damaged Ducati. Stoner had taken the lead in the early stages of the outing, however after crashing not long afterwards he was forced out temporarily while his team worked their magic. Valentino Rossi set the fourth fastest time at his home race, with Ben Spies and Randy De Puniet joining Rossi on the second row of the grid. Commenting on his pole position, Pedrosa told MotoGP.com: “I’m happy to be on pole position because we were strong throughout practice and things have gone according to plan so far this weekend. We are doing a very good job at the moment, improving at every round and now we have the chance to have another good race. I’ve never won two MotoGP races in a row and this is a good challenge for me - I really want to go for it.” Qualifying Positions, MotoGP, San Marino: Pos. Lorenzo tops times with Catalunya pole
Source: Insidebikes | Carole Nash » Bike News - Saturday, 3rd July 2010, 17:54 GMTJorge Lorenzo completed another MotoGP qualifying session with pole position, starting tomorrow’s race at the Catalunya from the top of the grid. Grasping his third consecutive pole position in the dying stages of the qualifying hour allowed the Spaniard to confirm his status, expanding his stranglehold on the 2010 championship. Ducati ace Casey Stoner was hot on the tail of Lorenzo as the session was coming to an end, and despite a brief spell as fastest rider, the Australian was forced to settle for second. Starting on the front row of the grid is a strong position for Stoner, and he will be hoping to transfer second into number one. The final spot on the front row was awarded to Randy De Puniet, who was far from out of the running for top spot. Also enjoying his time as the quickest man out on track, his provisional pole position was taken away from him with just ten minutes of the session remaining, demoting him to third. This will be De Puniet’s third front row start in a row. The second row will see championship contender Dani Pedrosa head the row in fourth, with Ben Spies and Andrea Dovizioso ready to fight it out alongside him. Behind, Loris Capirossi will start tomorrow’s race from seventh, with Marco Simoncelli eighth and Alvaro Bautista enjoying a ninth place start. Colin Edwards completes the top ten, with Stoner’s Ducati teammate, Nicky Hayden just next to him in eleventh. Lorenzo will be looking to extend his lead at the top of the championship table tomorrow, in the absence of his FIAT Yamaha teammate, Valentino Rossi, but will have some stiff competition all around him. A busy session saw the FIAT Yamaha rider take the top spot on this twenty-eighth of thirty laps, just beating team mate Jorge Lorenzo to the position, with the Spaniard just 0.054 seconds adrift of the Italian. As the qualifying hour drew to a close, there was a rather frantic track, as everyone was where they needed to be, each eager to take the prominent spot. Dani Pedrosa overcame the challenge from his rivals to secure the third fastest time, and also the final position on the front row of the grid for tomorrow’s race. Casey Stoner, despite fighting for pole position earlier on in the session, will head the second row of the grid, starting from fourth tomorrow, with his Ducati Marlboro teammate, Nicky Hayden, and Randy De Puniet alongside him in fifth and sixth. The remainder of the top ten saw Andrea Dovizioso edge out Colin Edwards for seventh and eighth, while Loris Capirossi will start from ninth. Aleix Espargaro followed just behind in tenth. Further down the field, Ben Spies and Mika Kallio fought back from earlier incidents to qualify twelfth and sixteenth. Stoner storms Qatar with pole
Source: Insidebikes | Carole Nash » Bike News - Saturday, 10th April 2010, 22:05 GMTCasey Stoner continued his dominant form in Qatar for round one of the 2010 MotoGP Championship, rocketing to pole position after a thrilling qualifying session. Having topped the timing sheets twice already this weekend in Free Practice one and two, the Ducati rider again controlled the pace, claiming top spot with around twenty minutes to go. Making his full season debut in the premier class this season after making his name in World Superbikes last year, Yamaha rider Ben Spies set the early pace, going quickest as the qualifying hour started. However, just five minutes into the hour and a familiar form took over, with Jorge Lorenzo inheriting the number one position. As is expected during the qualifying hour, provisional pole position changed repeatedly whilst the riders settled into their rhythm. Randy De Puniet and Dani Pedrosa were among the names to top the times, before a fired up Stoner took over the place. Behind the Australian, the battle really began to hot up, with reigning champion Valentino Rossi sliding through to second where he remained for the rest of the hour. Despite third spot changing repeatedly, it was Rossi’s teammate Lorenzo who finally claimed the position, riding with injury after injuring his hand in pre-season testing. De Puniet eventually settled in fourth as the session came to an end, whilst Loris Capirossi posted the fifth quickest time. Andrea Dovizioso rode on through to a sixth place grid slot, with his Repsol Honda Team teammate Pedrosa in seventh. American Colin Edwards managed the ninth fastest time, courtesy of his Monster Yamaha Tech 3 machine, while fellow American Nicky Hayden will start from tenth. Edwards’ teammate, Spies finished the first qualifying hour of the 2010 season eleventh. After a long winter MotoGP is back, with all seventeen riders eager to see those lights go out at the start of tomorrow’s race. MotoGP Qualifying Positions, Qatar: Pos.
