MotoGP 2011 Silly Season – Part 2, Satellite Squads And Departure Lounge

Source: MotoMatters.com | Kropotkin Thinks - ... that the boss can say whatever he wants - Wednesday, 11th August 2010, 16:31 GMT

Yesterday, we discussed who is going where in the factory teams in MotoGP. For the most part, those deals are either public, or really badly-kept secrets. Today, we'll look at the situation among the satellite teams, a situation which is much, much less clear-cut than the factory squad, in part because the factory deals have not all been announced yet. The number of changes are suprisingly few, reflecting in part the problems in MotoGP. As costs rise, the cost of being competitive is growing, and more importantly, the cost of failure is increasing as well. As a consequence, teams are not willing to take chances on unproven but promising talent. The learning curve in MotoGP is now so steep - electronics, bike setup, but most especially tires - that it takes half a season to start to get your head around the class. Limited testing has made the situation much, much worse, raising the penalty for rookies entering the class even further - the scrabbling around for substitute riders for Valentino Rossi, Hiroshi Aoyama and Randy de Puniet illustrating the case perfectly. read more Read article

World Superbike star Tom Sykes returns to BSB at Brands Hatch

Source: British Superbikes - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Thursday, 15th July 2010, 10:14 GMT

World Superbike ace Tom Sykes will return to his former battle ground when he joins the BSB grid onboard the factory WSB Kawasaki at the eighth round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch on 6/7/8 August. The annual August event on the 2.3-mile Grand Prix circuit will be an epic triple-header as the fight for the title intensifies with the all-important Showdown rapidly approaching. Former BSB title contender Sykes is relishing the challenge of renewing his on track rivalries as he aims to settle old scores and take on some of this year's hottest properties. Sykes last raced in BSB back in 2008 when he was embroiled in a five-way fight for the title, eventually finishing the season fourth. His impressive BSB track record launched him onto the world stage and the Kawasaki World Superbike Championship rider is continuing to demonstrate impressive pace in his second season in WSB. Sykes is currently the sole rider for the squad as team-mate Chris Vermeulen is sidelined through injury for the remainder of the season, but an announcement regarding the team's second rider is due to be made soon. Sykes said: "I am really excited to have this opportunity to race in front of the British fans at the biggest BSB round of the season at Brands Hatch, which still has to be one of my favourite race tracks in the world. The Paul Bird Motorsport Kawasaki team put in a great performance last year with three podium finishes and I am now looking forward to going head-to-head with the best of BSB in a few weeks' time. It has been a fantastic year for me, even though the results don't necessarily show it, and I am sure we will give the BSB regulars a good battle for those wins." Sykes also appeared as a wildcard entry at the last World Superbike Championship event to take place at Brands Hatch in 2008, whilst competing in BSB. He finished an impressive seventh in race two and the Briton will be hoping for even greater success when he takes on an international field of world-class riders in BSB at Brands Hatch this August. Advance adult weekend admission tickets cost just £30 online with children aged 12 and under admitted free. Limited grandstand and camping tickets are also on sale now. MotoGP set to light up Brands Hatch BSB

Source: British Superbikes - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Tuesday, 6th July 2010, 13:50 GMT

The Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit will reverberate to the ear-piercing sound of MotoGP machinery on Saturday/Sunday 7/8 August at the eighth round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship. The two astounding Rizla Suzuki MotoGP GSV-R800 four stroke machines will be the fastest motorcycles to lap the 2.3-mile track and with top speeds of over 200mph, BSB fans can experience the superb spectacle of MotoGP at the Kent circuit. Spanish Rizla Suzuki rider and former 125cc World Champion Álvaro Bautista will be giving some high-speed demonstration laps on Saturday and Sunday as the Japanese manufacturer celebrates 50 years of International racing. Bautista is one of the hottest properties in MotoGP and in his rookie season he has already recorded the Rizla Suzuki team's best result of the year, following a sensational fifth place at his home Grand Prix at Catalunya in Spain last weekend. Bautista said: "It will be interesting for me to go to Brands Hatch because I have never been there before and it is such a famous track. "It will be good to learn another circuit and to visit a totally new place. To have new experiences like this is always good and it will be interesting for me to ride the bike and get more of a feeling for it at different places. "I am looking forward to doing the demo run and showing the British fans that have never seen a MotoGP bike just what it is all about." Rizla Suzuki Team Manager Paul Denning said: "We are delighted to be able to support Suzuki GB in their 50 years of racing celebrations and to bring the sight and sound of a fully-blown MotoGP bike to the Brands Hatch BSB race. "This is a great opportunity for Suzuki to showcase the GSV-R's technology and incredible sound in-front of a different audience. "The link between the MotoGP bike and the Suzuki GSX-R - which is celebrating its 25th anniversary - is evident in their racing ancestry, so to see the two machines together at one event will be very special - albeit one will be racing for victory in the hands of Tommy, Yukio, Michael and Alistair and the other will just be ridden slightly less aggressively on its demo laps! "Álvaro is looking forward to riding the Brands Hatch GP track, he's heard a lot about it and I'm not sure if he's scared or excited, but I'm positive he'll let the Rizla Suzuki GSV-R rip and provide great entertainment. "MSV put on a fantastic show last year and we hope we'll be able to make it even bigger and better this year. "There'll be another rider or two experiencing the MotoGP GSV-R for the first time as well - so watch this space for details!" Advance adult weekend admission tickets cost just £29 online with children aged 12 and under admitted free. Limited grandstand and camping tickets are also on sale now.
