Two fourth places for Rutter, but team mate Jessopp injured at Mallory
Source: British Superbike News - Wednesday, 30th June 2010, 11:12 GMTmichael rutter Michael Rutter continued his assault on the British Superbike Championship in the fifth round at Mallory Park, consolidating his position with two fourth place finishes. But Mallory Park was not so kind to Riders.com team mate Martin Jessopp who was involved in a crash with Dan Linfoot in race one at Charlies Chicane on lap two, forcing the race to be red flagged and re-started. Jessopp has since confirmed that he broke his tibia and fibula in the incident and also broke his left foot, and now faces a frustrating lay off from the Championship. The accident took a bit of the shine off Rutter’s performance for the team, he had qualified fourth and despite problems with gearing on the Ducati maintained that same position for both races. The first race was re-started over 25 laps and Rutter said; “I rode the hardest I could but was losing out in the second gear corners. We’re limited to how we can gear the Ducati, which isn’t usually an issue, but causes us a lot of problems circuit. We can run the more suitable gearing but then we compromise the ideal wheelbase length of the bike and once you do that it upsets the entire set-up of the machine.” In the second race it was much of the same; “We weren’t a million miles off the first three either. We struggled with low down grunt because of the gearing we were forced to run. In first gear corners, I was having to use second so we weren’t getting off the turns like the others. But we’ll keep plugging away to finish in the top six after the ninth round which will put us into the top six run-off for the title in the final three rounds.” The final outcome was soured somewhat by the incident involving Jessopp and Rutter said; “It’s a such a shame what’s happened to Martin. It brings the whole team down. Of course it’s a good result this weekend for me and the team to have two fourth place finishes but I want Martin to be up there too.” Rutter is now fifth in the championship on 114 points, only 40 adrift of series leader Tommy Hill. Haydon’s inside line to Knockhill
Source: British Superbikes - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Tuesday, 29th June 2010, 18:06 GMTWell looking ahead to this weekend I have to start with the HM Plant Honda team - they were so impressive at Mallory Park and really look like they have returned to their best again. I didn't really expect them to be so ahead of the others at Mallory Park and I have to say to see Kiyo back riding like how he did when he won the championship. He was really confident and it was a remarkable performance, so much so that I am sure that some of the others must be slightly worried as when he rides with form like that he is a very hard rider to beat. Josh Brookes though you could see rode really hard, as always and he just didn't have that little bit extra to catch his team-mate, but then you know he is one rider who doesn't give up without a fight so I wouldn't be surprised to see him back at Knockhill. It was a disaster for Tommy Hill and the Worx Crescent Suzuki team at Mallory Park, they had so much bad luck and all in one weekend that his lead has all but gone. A wheel sensor problem in race one then having to fight from the fourth row of the grid was a big ask, but an eighth place was damage limitation and that's what was important. He will be back on the case at Knockhill and Tommy knows what he has to do. Yukio though needs to be consistent, he has had some heavy crashes and he will be suffering for sure. It was weird for me to see Stuart Easton so far down at Mallory Park, whatever there problem is I am hope they have it sorted as they can't afford to be outside that top six come the end of the August Bank Holiday round at Cadwell Park. James Ellison scored points and I am sure he was in pain, but it was good to see him back and if he can do a little bit extra at Knockhill then he is definitely back on the way up. Michael Laverty on the Relentless Suzuki was another rider who I thought was impressive; he had his first ever podium in BSB at Knockhill so he will definitely be in with a shout. In the Motorpoint Yamaha garage, Andrew Pitt made his debut last weekend; I think he may have played it safe at Mallory Park as he adjust but I think we will see more of him this weekend. His team-mate Dan Linfoot just needs to build his consistency and score points without getting into trouble; the crash with Martin Jessopp wasn't his fault but he needs points on the board. Simon Andrews had a strong performance on his return with the MSS Colchester Kawasaki team; Gary Mason was a bit lacklustre so those two will be want to be back where they should be with that bike at Knockhill. Chris Walker did a brilliant job at Mallory Park and this type of track suits his style so I wouldn't be surprised to see another good performance from him this weekend. John Laverty was unlucky on the Buildbase Kawasaki so we might see more of him too at Knockhill; he has been unlucky there in the past so this could be his year. In the Mirror.co.uk BSB - Evo class Hudson Kennaugh may lead but I think Steve Brogan may just have the edge to put the BMW back up at the front. I used to love Knockhill - it was the last circuit I ever won at before I hung up the leathers so I will have a bit of envy of the boys this weekend, but whatever happens they will be too cracking races! Remember if you can't be there then you can watch the action live on British Eurosport 2. Read article

King Kiyo reigns at Mallory Park
Source: British Superbikes - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Sunday, 27th June 2010, 18:18 GMTRyuichi Kiyonari put his bid for the MCE Insurance British Superbike crown firmly back on track with a brilliant winning double in the fifth round at Mallory Park where he headed off his HM Plant Honda team-mate Josh Brookes in each of the races. The Japanese rider was at his best, lapping consistently and strongly, as he moved into fourth place in the standings while Brookes was not complaining too much about being second best as his points haul capitalised on a day of misfortune for series leading Tommy Hill. The Worx Crescent Suzuki rider was complaining of a machine problem in the opener, but was given a life-line when the race was stopped on the fourth lap as Martin Jessopp and Dan Linfoot tangled. His team worked on the bike, but Hill was soon in trouble again on the re-start, pitting with a clutch problem. Kiyonari was carving through from fourth on the opening lap be leading the pack at half distance with Brookes tucked in behind and trying everything he knew to find a way through as early race leader Michael Laverty on the Relentless Suzuki ran third, but not by much from the determined RidersMotorcycles, com Ducati riding Michael Rutter. Next time out, it was local favourite Chris Walker, aboard his privately entered Suzuki who made the early running, but Kiyonari who blamed himself for a poor start had soon made amends and by the second lap was running at the head of the pack with Brookes now attacking Walker for second place. Brookes was through to second on the seventh lap, but Kiyonari was dictating terms from the front. Walker was under pressure from Michael Laverty and by then Stuart Easton, fifth in the opener, had tipped off his Swan Honda. Kiyonari ruled supreme taking his third victory of the season by some 3.601secs from Brookes and afterwards he reflected: "I am very happy to take these two victories which put me well up in the championship. In the first race, I had some special braking at the chicane and made a difficult pass on Michael Laverty - I said sorry to him as I pushed him wide! "Then in the second my start was not so good and I was overtaken, but I got my head down and put in consistent laps and finished ahead of Josh again which was hard to do as he wanted the race wins," added Kiyonari. Brookes admitted he lacked speed on Kiyonari. "I was not able to bridge the gap, but Kiyo clearly had a good race strategy and I am please to have taken a pair of seconds when Tommy Hill has had a bad weekend - now I am only four points down on him, but, it would have been even better if I had won." Michael Laverty took third place ahead of Rutter with Chris Walker fifth from John Laverty aboard the Buildbase Kawasaki and Simon Andrews on the MSS Colchester Kawasaki. Hudson Kennaugh extended his lead in the Mirror.co.uk BSB-EVO category, despite running second in the opener to his Jentin BMW rival Steve Brogan - the Liverpudlian tipped off early on next time out as Kennaugh took the race victory on the MAR Kawasaki. Haydon’s inside line: Cadwell Park
Source: British Superbikes - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Tuesday, 18th May 2010, 8:07 GMTIt feels like a long break between rounds but it is great to be back after two weekends off and going to Cadwell Park so early in the year for the first of two visits. We have to start with championship leader Tommy Hill as he has been so good, so consistent and he is really on a roll at the moment on the Worx Crescent Suzuki. He took his maiden BSB win here so he has a good history and if he can carry his momentum this weekend then he will definitely be the rider to beat. His team-mate Yukio Kagayama also has history there; he came back from that massive crash to be on the podium the year after to put any demons to rest. I think we might see more of him here this weekend as he recovers from that big off at Oulton Park. At Swan Honda Stuart Easton is looking like the biggest threat to Hill; he took the fight to him at Oulton Park so I would expect to see him do the same again here. There were some rumours that James Ellison would be back for this round as he continues to recover from his broken femur sustained at Thruxton so we will have to watch that space. In the HM Plant Honda camp this is their home round and the pressure to perform must be on for them a little bit. Ryuichi Kiyonari has been brilliant in the past but he doesn't seem quite there at the moment for me. I think so far he has been a bit hit and miss but I think if he shows even just part of that form we know he is capable of then he will definitely be in with a shout. Josh Brookes hasn't raced at Cadwell Park before but he went well when they tested there earlier in the year so I think we should see him up there at the front for sure. The Relentless Suzuki team need to get the next mention as they took that spectacular win at Oulton Park with Michael Laverty. I think once a rider takes that first win it tends to open the flood gates as they know it is possible so I expect to see him put on a bit of a challenge as his confidence is so high. His team-mate Alastair Seeley should also be a contender, he must be feeling fired up after seeing Michael win, especially after a podium earlier in the year so he could spring a surprise. The Motorpoint Yamaha team need to get back up there this weekend as in the first few rounds they haven't been able to transfer their pace from practice over to the race. Ian Lowry should start coming on stronger now he has had a round to settle in with the team whilst Dan Linfoot just needs to relax a little and find that pace he showed at Brands Hatch. Ducati have a history for going well at Cadwell Park and we saw how good the Ridersmotorcycles.com Ducatis were at Thruxton and Oulton Park so those boys could mix it up. Michael Rutter and Martin Jessopp have been a bit quiet but they have both shown real confidence and that podium for Michael at Oulton Park was just such a good result for the team. Then to Kawasaki and at the MSS Colchester Kawasaki team; Gary Mason has gone well there in the past and so has Chris Walker who is back in again for Simon Andrews. They seem to just be lacking somewhere at the minute though, it seems when they have done race distance that maybe they suffer with grip or something so maybe they need to find that bit extra in their set-up. John Laverty on the Buildbase Kawasaki deserves a mention for his impressive performance at Oulton Park, he rode the wheels off that bike and that is the best we have seen from that team in a long while so I wouldn't discount him from another good result. Cadwell Park is a unique track and I loved it there as you always get such a passionate crowd and fans head there in their thousands. I can't wait to be a part of it this weekend, get there if you can and if you can't make it then watch the action live on British Eurosport 2. Read article
