Britain’s short list for MX of Nations announced

Source: Latest News Articles from ACU.org.uk - Monday, 28th June 2010, 7:26 GMT

The three riders who will actually represent Team GB will be chosen from, Brad Anderson, Max Anstie, Jake Nicholls, Tommy Searle and Shaun Simpson. At the meeting all logistics of the event were discussed and Mr Dixon is now talking with each rider and Team Manager over various issues which will determine the availability of the five named above. Dixon said: “I have given a lot of thought before announcing the five man squad. Obviously there are other riders who may have felt they should have been listed, especially as we do not currently have a top 10 contender in the MX1 world championship. However, with the 350 KTM now being available and proven to be competitive, there is a possibility that either, or both, of our MX1 and MX3 riders could be on a 350.” Motocross Committee Chairman, Brian Higgins added: “We have given the job of Team Manager to Steve Dixon and we have every confidence in his decision when it gets to the final three. Steve’s vast knowledge at world level is invaluable and he has the contacts to get data from Manufacturers for setting the bikes up at high altitude, which the Denver circuit is.” The event takes place in the last week of September and it is likely the final selection will not be made until September as last year the ACU had to change riders twice through injuries leading up to the Italian event. Maxxis at Lyng Norfolk This Sunday

Source: Latest News Articles from ACU.org.uk - Sunday, 6th June 2010, 23:13 GMT

With just six days to go to the next round at Lyng, our Grand Prix contenders had mixed fortunes at the French GP this weekend. Of the seven riders who are currently regularly competing on the world stage, it was once again our current MX2 series leader, Zach Osborne who scored the best at St Jean D'Angely with an overall third position and currently holds sixth position in the championship - just six points adrift of Shaun Simpson who has opted to concentrate solely on the World Championship. There is no doubting the American's speed, but he makes it difficult after poor qualifying sessions which gives a poor gate choice. Jake Nicholls would have hoped to score better on the wet hardpack French circuit which yielded his lowest points haul of the year, so he will want to close the gap on Osborne in the British series. Other MX2 points scorers in the championship who will appear in Norfolk are Latvian Matiss Karro (16th) and Mel Pocock (34th). Our current MX1 leader, Evgeny Bobreshev didn't excel in the wet french conditions, but his eight point haul still keeps him in the top ten in the world standings. However, his CAS team partner, Gareth Swanepoel scored 10-8 to hold fifteenth and will look to carry this form forward into the sand at Cadders Hill. Of course, in addition to this we have another rider who is holding 6th place in the world and recovering from injury should be riding next weekend. Natalie Kane showed a gritty performance to put two good point scoring rides together and will feature in the MX2 class, which incidentally will be the first to take to the circuit at 9am on Sunday, in the new morning format. The Lyng circuit is easily reached from the A47 trunk road and as the series reaches the half way point, this is an event not to be missed. Read article

Winning MX weekend for Pirelli

Source: Insidebikes | Carole Nash - Tuesday, 9th February 2010, 15:31 GMT

Pirelli celebrated a winning weekend as the International MX season kicked off with wins at the historic Le Touquet beach race and both classes of the Mantova Starcross. It was a day at the beach for Mickael Pichon as he took his Pirelli Scorpion MX shod Honda to victory in the energy sapping Le Touquet French beach race. Meanwhile in Mantova, Italy the World’s best MX riders were lead home by Pirelli Scorpion MX pilots with MX1 World Champion Antonio Cairoli winning the big-bore class as he made his official KTM 350 debut and Red Bull KTM factory rider Shaun Simpson dominating proceedings in MX2. The Mantova Pirelli riders felt a genuine advantage as they could rely on the fantastic grip and line-holding performances of the MidSoft 32 front and Soft 410 rear, developed specifically for these kind of conditions. Pirelli didn’t just do the winning as the MX1 class saw utter domination by its riders with Cairoli backed up by Steve Ramon, Clement Desalle, and David Philippaerts whilst in MX2 Marvin Musquin finished runner-up to Simpson. The Pirelli ‘winning weekend’ was topped off by German Stephanie Laier completing victory in the Women’s class. Shaun Simpson, Red Bull KTM, Pirelli rider, commented on the Pirelli Scorpion drive and grip, “Despite the heavy rain on Friday, the track was in quite good shape for Saturday’s practice and qualifying sessions. Right from the outset we had good grip and the bike felt really positive in the turns, this allowed me to find the speed to top both of the morning sessions and lead the qualifying race until I made a small mistake. “Lining up against the more powerful MX1 bikes for Sunday’s three main races could have been daunting, but again I was able to get the drive out of the gate and to stay out of trouble in the first two races. A racing incident in the final moto spoilt what otherwise was a great day, which was made much easier thanks to Pirelli being able to give me the tyres that perfectly suited the tough conditions throughout the weekend. “ Read article
