Camier leads…for a while
Source: WORLDSBK.COM | NEWS - Monday, 19th April 2010, 13:58 GMTLeon Camier (Aprilia Alitalia) was in the joyful position of leading a race in SBK for the first time last weekend, on the road at least, before he asked just too much of his machine's current set-up and crashed. But it was difficult not to see his general performance, in only his sixth ever SBK championship round of course, as anything but a step forward for his confidence. Camier, a British Supersport and Superbike Champion (in 2005 and 2009 respectively) has impressed many insiders in SBK, even in this stellar year of top riders wherever you look, with his sheer commitment. Even his two no-scores from the weekend at Valencia have done nothing but make him more determined to succeed. He led the second part of the second race for nine laps, but eventually crashed after confusion at not being able to see his pit board properly led him to lose concentration for a split second. But, even the fact that his current machine set-up is not perfect for him quite yet is something Camier sees as a positive. Why? If he can lead for so long right now, what can be possible with an even better overall package? He stated after the races last Sunday. ‘I could not see my pit board in race two but I could hear a bike behind me. I was stressing because I needed to see my pit board to judge what was going on. I was having a lot of ‘moments' out there to keep ahead, keep the pace strong. When you are pushing but not 100% flowing it can have an adverse effect. I was happy with the way everything was going, but there are still a few things to be improved on.' Read article
Pirelli look forward to another gripping BSB season in 2010
Source: British Superbikes - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Tuesday, 23rd March 2010, 10:09 GMTOne of the biggest teams in the paddock can't wait for the new season as Pirelli are gearing up for their third successive season as BSB's sole tyre suppliers. As well as the teams whose bikes we'll be watching race around the circuits of Britain, tyre suppliers Pirelli will also be there, providing their expertise to help the riders race quicker and safer in 2010. Pirelli Moto UK again line-up with a huge logistics operation and a great opportunity to meet hundreds of thousands of passionate race fans. The Pirelli promotional unit backs up the on-track action as the series shapes up as a classic battle, with several top names returning, including double World Superbike Champion Neil Hodgson and Japanese ace Ryuichi Kiyonari, who has taken the BSB crown twice. Just as the series organisers introduced the Pirelli single tyre rule to smooth out inconsistencies between teams and riders in 2007, this time around they have tweaked the regulations to make the series finale more exciting with a three round 'Showdown' and introduced an 'Evo' class for closer, less technology-led racing. The focus of the season will of course be on the riders with a line-up that gives real strength in depth from all the major manufacturers. HM Plant Honda line-up Kiyonari, partnered with 2009 series top rookie, Josh Brookes, who will be looking for a controversy free season. With last year's champion Leon Camier moving to World Superbike, the series runner-up and third placed men James Ellison and Stuart Easton, find themselves as team mates for 2010 in the Swan Honda team run by Shaun Muir. Suzuki have two teams with Worx Crescent Suzuki running Tommy Hill and the returning force of Yukio Kagayama whilst the Relentless by TAS Suzuki squad have brought back popular rider Michael Laverty and 2009 Superstock Champion Alistair Seeley. MSS Colchester Kawasaki have retained Simon Andrews paired with mirror.co.uk Superbike Cup winner Gary Mason, while the underrated Buildbase Kawasaki set-up have John Laverty and Adam Jenkinson. Experienced Michael Rutter is back for more with Riders Ducati as the equally learned Neil Hodgson looks to make a dramatic return with young teammate Dan Linfoot in the Motorpoint Yamaha team of Rob McElnea. The Evo class which will run within the main Superbike races sees a diverse range of riders with some new manufacturer entrants attracted to the cost effective, single ECU race series. Entries from Aprilia, BMW and KTM now mean that a staggering eight manufacturers will be represented with top riders including Steve Brogan on the Jentin Racing BMW S1000RR and Chris Burns on the beautiful Splitlath Motorsport Aprilia RSV4. Pirelli Racing Manager Jason Griffiths commented, "This really is shaping up to be an exciting year for the Superbike series with new teams and the return of some top names including Neil Hodgson. It will also be very interesting to see how the new Evo class pans out with limited tuning and traction control. From our point of view we now have two seasons in the paddock under our belt and have built a very good understanding with the teams, winning them over regarding the one-tyre rule. We look forward to more of the same in 2010." More information regarding Pirelli's entire range of racing and road tyres can be found at www.pirelli.com. Read article

BSB: Hodgson set for sensational comeback
Source: British Superbikes 2009 - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Wednesday, 24th February 2010, 8:14 GMTFormer British and World Superbike Champion Neil Hodgson will make his much anticipated return to the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship next season after signing for the Motorpoint Yamaha team. Hodgson returns to the UK after racing in the AMA Championship and securing the WSB crown in 2003. Hodgson last raced in BSB back in 2000 when he took the title for the GSE Racing team after a season-long battle with arch rival Chris Walker. The title fight went down to the wire at Donington Park for the final round of the championship following one of the most memorable seasons in BSB history. Hodgson said: ""I can't wait to move back to BSB and the UK; at the end of the day I have raced on the world stage and in the States and now I want to come back to where it all started and there is definitely a good feeling on coming home. "It certainly wasn't a difficult decision for me to come back to BSB next season, especially with Yamaha as that has been the bike to win on this year. "It has been successful in BSB with Leon (Camier) and James (Ellison) and also in AMA with Ben (Bostrom) and Josh (Hayes), then that doesn't include on the world stage with Ben (Spies) and Cal (Crutchlow). "I am really excited about returning to BSB and it has been a dream to come back next season. "As a rider you never know which way your career is going to go; for sure when you are on the world stage you want to be there as long as you can, but in America I have been through some tough seasons, especially with the injury last year and now I am ready to come home. "It is a personal choice for me to return to BSB and I am as motivated now as I was ten years ago when I won the title, if not more." Read article
Honorary Doctorate for Toseland
Source: Insidebikes | Carole Nash - Thursday, 26th November 2009, 10:19 GMTJames Toseland is undoubtedly one of the biggest champions of Motorsport of our time and he’s used to crowds of people cheering him for yet another victory. This week, however, Toseland was met with a rather different reception, a reception of clapping people wearing cloaks and funny hats. No, he’s not an extra for the next Harry Potter film; he received an honorary doctorate from Sheffield Hallam University. Taking pride of place on a very different podium, Toseland spoke to graduates about his success, starting out as a Yorkshire lad and zooming to the heights of motorcycling success. Toseland went from being a Doncaster-born boy who learnt to ride a boke on the coal spoil pits close to his home to being the youngest ever World Superbike Champion in 2004 aged just 23. Next year he’ll form part of the factory Yamaha team after two years in MotoGP. The world champion addressed his audience and said: “To be here and recognised by the city and Sheffield Hallam is possibly the most humbling thing I’ve ever received. “It’s a great honour and the icing on the cake for me after winning two championships and hopefully another next year.” Toseland joins poet Simon Armitage and Pulp singer Jarvis Cocker as esteemed citizens who received Honorary Doctorates at Sheffield Hallam University this year.
