Tommy Hill scored another pole position at Cadwell Park this afternoon, ahead of tomorrow’s double header, as he strives to strengthen his championship charge. As the early stages of the Swan Combi Roll for Pole session took place, a fierce battle unravalled, as championship contenders Hill and Josh Brookes duelled for the top spot. Hill eventually won pole after nudging Brookes aside from provisional pole position, however chief rival Brookes will line up right alongside, as the pair do battle in the first of tomorrow’s two races. Completing the front row of the grid, Brookes HM Plant Honda teammate Ryuichi Kiyonari will start third, as the trio wait to see who will triumph on the narrow track. Behind, Michael Rutter set the fourth fastest time, with Simon Andrews and Michael Laverty ready to line up alongside. James Ellison set the seventh fastest time, and the quickest time of the two Swan Honda machines, while Alastair Seeley will line up eighth, Tommy Bridewell ninth and Yukio Kagayama tenth. Stuart Easton narrowly missed out on a top ten starting spot, qualifying thirteenth. In the Evo Class, the Aprilias of Hudson Kennaugh and Chris Burns have been excluded for this event as a result of technical eligibility issues. Commenting on his pole position, Hill told the official BSB website: “”It is important to be on the front row here and that sets us up well for tomorrow and fighting for the podiums and those credits. The last time I had a race win was at Thruxton which we need to change, but I have been happy this weekend, especially as we have now found a good wet setting this morning. We need the podiums before the Showdown; I messed it up here last time but tomorrow I want to get it right.”  Qualifying Positions, BSB, Cadwell Park: Tommy Hill (Worx Crescent Suzuki) 1m:27.578s Josh Brookes (HM Plant Honda) +0.352s Ryuichi Kiyonari (HM Plant Honda) +0.493s Michael Rutter (Ridersmotorcycles.com Ducati) +0.660s Simon Andrews (MSS Colchester Kawasaki) +0.766s Michael Laverty (Relentless Suzuki by TAS) +0.767s James Ellison (Swan Honda) +1.079s Alastair Seeley (Relentless Suzuki by TAS) +1.550s Tommy Bridewell (Quay Garage Honda) +1.701s Yukio Kagayama (Worx Crescent Suzuki) +2.404s   Read article

Brookes two, Kiyo one but Hill leads title chase

Source: British Superbikes - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Sunday, 18th July 2010, 19:12 GMT

Josh Brookes was denied a hat-trick of wins by a machine problem in the third race of the seventh round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship at Snetterton and that cost the Aussie the lead in the title stakes as Tommy Hill, running second to Ryuichi Kiyonari regained the advantage by two points. Brookes had won the opening race, held over from the weather ravaged Knockhill round, on Saturday afternoon with a last lap move on his HM Plant Honda team-mate Ryuichi Kiyonari with Hill, riding the Worx Crescent Suzuki running third from the RidersMotorcycles.com Ducati of Michael Rutter. Then, despite having come out on top in the Swan Combi Roll for Pole, Brookes made life difficult for himself with a sluggish start from the front of the grid in the first of the two Sunday afternoon races, to be running sixth on an opening lap led by Rutter from Hill with Kiyonari third from Michael Laverty on the Relentless Suzuki and Swan Honda's James Ellison. Brookes was gaining places to be running third on the fourth lap, but by then Kiyonari had pulled out with a machine problem, leaving the front running duel to Rutter and Hill, but they were soon feeling the heat from the determined Brookes. He moved second on the seventh lap and took Rutter a further seven laps into the race as he slowed with a gear shift problem. Alastair Seeley and Ellison ran ahead of Hill with Ellison showing his Brands Hatch opening round form, prior to the tumble at Thruxton in which he sustained a broken leg soon going second. Hill attacked Ellison, going through to take second place as Brookes completed his second win, reflecting: "I messed up the start and had to work for it but was comfortable with the passes. It was a shame that some of the others had mechanical problems but I am sure that I could have taken them." Ellison, fourth in that race, made a great start to the final race, heading off Brookes with Michael Laverty third from Kiyonari and Hill, but soon Kiyonari was running third and harassing his team-mate, moving ahead of him on the seventh lap and two laps later taking the lead from Ellison. Ellison strayed off-line and Brookes nipped into second place, but not for long before he was sidelined by a machine problem. Kiyonari was leading from Michael Laverty with Rutter third as the Safety Car was deployed as Ellison crashed in a tangle with Seeley. Kiyonari duly completed his fourth win of the season, and his sixth at the circuit, finishing half a second clear of Hill who had finally found a way ahead of Michael Laverty with three laps remaining. For Hill second best was good enough, putting him back on top in the title stakes and he reflected: "We've re-grouped, gelled back and come out fighting. Now we are back to where we need to be, and where we should be. "The team have worked hard, we've had out ups and downs and problems along the way but these three podiums show were are back. The final race here was tough, but halfway through I clawed them in, and felt comfortable," he added. Steve Brogan, riding Jentin BMW won all three Mirror.co.uk BSB-EVO class races and that put the Liverpudlian back ahead in the title chase 246-241 over Hudson Kennaugh who having switched to riding Splitlath Aprilia took a fifth and two third places. Brookes bangs in pole position lap

Source: British Superbikes - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Saturday, 3rd July 2010, 16:35 GMT

Josh Brookes stole the pole position at Knockhill this afternoon to take HM Plant Honda's sixth consecutive pole position at the Fife circuit during another dramatic Swan Combi Roll for Pole grid decider. Brookes said: "This morning we didn't do too many laps as I heard a noise with the engine and we wanted to make sure there was nothing wrong that could have affected us in qualifying and that was why I was so down the order. "We put a new engine in and I was a bit worried but in Q1 the HM Plant Honda was feeling good, but we just made a slight change and then in Q3 it felt great and I just managed to get a good lap together and do the job. "Another Honda one-two is good for the team and I think the races will be tough tomorrow but I am ready for it." In Q1 championship leader Hill powered ahead in the final eight minutes with a time of 49.050s from Michael Rutter and Stuart Easton who had set the pace ahead of the qualifying shootout. It was drama for the Relentless Suzuki by TAS team as Michael Laverty crashed out at Leslies and with serious crash damage to the bike he was unable to rejoin Q2 despite the best efforts of his team. He will now start from 20th on the grid for the first race tomorrow. In Q2 Brookes put in the fastest lap of the weekend to put the HM Plant Honda at the top, displacing Rutter and Hill, with James Ellison making it through to the top ten in sixth following a determined performance to move into Q3. The HM Plant Honda team-mates scrapped it out in the final session for the top spot but it was Brookes who took his second consecutive pole position at the circuit from Hill in third and Rutter in fourth. Pole in the Park for Hill

Source: British Superbikes - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Friday, 2nd July 2010, 10:36 GMT

Tommy Hill smashed the opposition at Cadwell Park this afternoon to set pole position in the Swan Combi Roll for Pole shootout ahead of tomorrow's fourth round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship. Hill had taken the early advantage on the Worx Crescent Suzuki in the final eight minute session, but it was frantic on circuit as Brookes, Rutter, and Michael Laverty also looked to steal the pole position in the final minutes. Hill powered the Worx Crescent Suzuki to consistently fast laps to annihilate the fastest laps of the weekend so far, but high-flying Brookes was on a charge but it wasn't enough for the HM Plant Honda to take the pole position. Hill said: "I am happy to be on pole; it is always the goal but to be honest we have struggled a bit this weekend and everyone is so fast I knew it would be tough. "We have changed the forks over several times and then went back to basics but now we are up here and that is the main thing. "We needed to be here though as it is so close between the top guys that anything less would have made life tough for race one." Gary Mason crashed out of the second qualifying session at Charlies whilst running in the top three; the MSS Colchester Kawasaki rider was unable to rejoin the track for the final Q3 knockout. Kiyo parks it on pole at Mallory

Source: British Superbikes - BSB Blog - Mirror.co.uk - Saturday, 26th June 2010, 16:59 GMT

Ryuichi Kiyonari took a sensational pole position in this afternoon's Swan Combi Roll for Pole shootout to decide tomorrow's race one grid following an epic three-way scrap for the top spot at Mallory Park. Kiyo said: "I am happy with pole, but I didn't think it was going to be possible. We tried two different settings this morning in free practice and we had to find a balance and it wasn't until the last session in qualifying that we managed to do it. "I don't want to give up on two wins tomorrow so I am feeling confident that with a few changes we can go even faster." Michael Laverty stole the early advantage in the opening dramatic Q1 session, as both Worx Crescent Suzuki riders crashed out; Hill was first at Edwinas and then just two minutes later Kagayama fell at Charlies, but he was able to return to the garage and fire in a lap to move into the top 20 and ready for Q2. Hill only returned to the track in the final six minutes of Q2 after a frantic effort by the Worx Crescent Suzuki to get him back on circuit and he ended Q2 fifth whilst Kagayama will start from 11th. The Swan Hondas of Stuart Easton and James Ellison were 14th and 15th respectively and didn't make it through to Q3. Kiyonari left it late to knock Michael Laverty from the top of the standings in Q3, as Hill tried to close the gap but had to settle for third, with Michael Rutter completing the front row. Josh Brookes will lead the second row on the second HM Plant Honda alongside Andrew Pitt, Karl Harris and Dan Linfoot. Alastair Seeley was tenth in Q3 but due to a penalty will start from free practice three he will start from 14th on the grid. Hill on top at Cadwell

Source: Insidebikes | Carole Nash » BSB - Saturday, 22nd May 2010, 19:53 GMT

Tommy Hill was the man to beat in the British Superbike Swan Combi Roll for Pole this afternoon, stealing pole position at Cadwell Park. Despite a lot of pressure from his nearest rivals, Hill was able to secure a fast enough time earlier on in the third and final knockout session, to give him a pole position start for the first race at the Lincolnshire circuit tomorrow. A time of 1:27.744 seconds allowed the Worx Crescent Suzuki rider to hold onto pole until the end. As Hill put in his best time, Josh Brookes, Michael Rutter and Michael Laverty were all on the ball, and each determined to steal the position away from him. The final session of the Roll for Pole outing made for very exciting viewing, with everyone keen to put in the best performance they could. Brookes eventually set the second fastest time, just 0.355 seconds behind Hill, with Rutter third. Ryuichi Kiyonari pipped Michael Laverty at the end to qualify fourth, pushing Laverty back to fifth. Tommy Bridewell will start the first of tomorrow’s Cadwell adventures from sixth, while Stuart Easton endured a difficult session to qualify seventh. After setting the quickest time in the first free practice session of the weekend, Easton was on top form as ever, however after making some changes to his Swan Honda during qualifying he struggled somewhat. Chris Walker rode his MSS Colchester Kawasaki to eighth, with John Laverty in ninth.  Gary Mason, after running in the top three during the earlier qualifying sessions crashed out, meaning he was unable to rejoin the track. As a result of his incident he suffered from concussion and will not be racing tomorrow, despite recording the tenth quickest time. Commenting on his pole position, Hill told the BSB website: “I am happy to be on pole; it is always the goal but to be honest we have struggled a bit this weekend and everyone is so fast I knew it would be tough. “We have changed the forks over several times and then went back to basics but now we are up here and that is the main thing.
